Timeline of Tinkers' Bedrock
This is a timeline to show how the add-on changed over the course of development.
Version 1: 2021 - 2023
- Stratospheer announced to his YouTube channel about his 'demo' for Tinkers' Construct in April 2021, the same day he released one of his other add-ons: Strat's Food Expansion.
- Initially, the add-on lacked several features and the smeltery was all built within one block: the Smeltery Controller. This was achieved by having a tank-like face on the back to view the fluid being melted. This was a huge development, but still lacked depth due to coding limitations at the time.
- There were no faucets, but instead buckets were used to move around molten fluid.
- Tool materials only varied from Wood, Stone, Flint and Iron, but the tool parts could be combined in any way possible for that tool.
- As Strat improved over time as a developer, he initially aimed to create a 1:1 port of the mod.
- Throughout 2021 and early 2022, each update provided a large set of new features, including modifiers, converting the smeltery to a multi-block structure, and even providing options to change the textures between the classic 1.12 to the updated 1.16 from Java.
- Each update was one step closer to parity, and this was just the beginning.
- Throughout late 2022 to mid 2023, developments to the smeltery were at their peak; smelteries could finally store fluids and could be transferred between tables and basins - initially with only copper cans, later with seared faucets.
- Bedrock had the time to shine with its built-in RTX support, as Tinkers adopted this and created beautiful screenshots of the smeltery never seen before.
- Final changes included major smeltery recodes, larger fluid storage capacity and even the ability to refuel themselves with lava tanks.
- For some time, since May 2023, the add-on was left not updated. Meanwhile behind the curtains, Strat was preparing for the next phase.
Version 2: 2024 - Now
- Since the release of v2.0 at New Years 2024, Stratospheer’s goal had changed. This update began to diverge the add-on away from the original mod, as unique features are included, almost remixing the mod, to provide a unique experience altogether.
- Aluminium was a new material added, used as the new base material for the smeltery, along with Seared Bricks. This inclusion symbolised the change of pace for the add-on. Instead of creating a 1:1 port, Strat felt it was more necessary to create his own thing, while keeping the charm of Tinkers’ Construct.
- Tinkers' v2.1 drops, shortening the name from Tinkers' Construct: Bedrock Edition to 'Tinkers' Bedrock'.
- In the same update, the tool recipes are noticeably unique; tools now used similar parts to each other, to remove redundancy and only need to optimise for less parts.
- The smeltery also finally gained the ability to add up to 3 layers, allowing for the storage of multiple fluid types, and easier alloying.
- In addition, Strat also implemented an armour system using the materials included in the add-on, each one providing unique effects and abilities with their own trade-offs.
